The Foundation Works was founded in 2003 by Tom Pelletier. Before starting the company, Tom made his living as a home inspector for many years, inspecting thousands of properties and their foundations. While performing home inspections, he discovered a trend—most of the foundations he inspected (85% by survey)—had sub-standard bolting jobs, and elements of other low-quality workmanship. This meant that most of the homes he inspected were not as safe as they could be if an earthquake occurred.

He realized that the physical restrictions of customer access to the foundation area coupled with a lack of skilled technical delivery in the industry led to a decrease of reliable workmanship that typically went unchecked. Out of this discovery and the desire to raise the industry standard, The Foundation Works was born.
